What are some amazing psychology facts?
People who studied films (especially editing) might be aware of this.
So, let’s say you have a video clip of your friend and it has these three consecutive shots.
Shot 1 - Your friend with a normal expression.
Shot 2 - He sees Children playing
Shot 3 - And he starts smiling.
How does it feel like?
You friend looks like a compassionate person. He loves children. He takes time to appreciate and smile at the small beautiful things around him.
Right?
Now you open an editing software, remove the centre shot and replace it with the shot of this woman.
And play the entire video again.
And how does this look like?
It suddenly makes him look somewhat lustful right?
This famous effect is called Kuleshov effect.
It works on the principle that psychologically, the context in which a face is shown has a significant effect on how the face is perceived.
A lot of films use this effect during editing. They take blank expressions of a person and later fill a shot between the two expressions. If the shot is about a poor beggar, his reaction projects sympathy, and while if the shot is about a bleeding victim his reaction projects cruelty.
Have you ever heard of Kuleshov effect? Do you think it's really that widespread?
