Denim is one of the most frequently used types of cotton fabrics. People of different ages wear denim clothes all year round. How much do you really know about them?
Everyone has a pair of jeans. They are comfortable and go almost with any other clothing. However, not all of us know that denim and jeans have a long and interesting history.

#1 First denim comes from Nîmes, France. However, the first pair of jeans is believed to originate from Genoa, Italy.

#3 Levi Strauss founded a company that sold fine dry goods including clothes. Together with Jacob W. Davis, who was one of his customers, they patented the new style of pants - riveted blue jeans. Soon the company started mass production of blue jeans.
#4 It's interesting to learn that Levi Strauss never wore jeans as he was a wealthy man and this item of clothing was meant for workers.

I have to disagree with item #8. I am a product of the 50's and Levis were the fad and just about every guy around wore Levis to school and everywhere else. There were different styles of wearing them, especially the way the bottom of the legs were worn, rolled, tucked under, tucked under and rolled or straight. Me, I preferred tucked under with one roll.

gerald hardig, Sounds like stories my grandfather told us about when he was a sandblaster. Where he worked he would climb up on the dock and while two other guys held his stiff overhauls he would jump into them. After his shift was over, two guys would lift him out of the pants. Would have enjoyed seeing that.

Wondering if Levi Strauss knew John M.Studebaker. Studebaker searched for gold for a while but found that he could make more money building wheelbarrows for the miners. Later on he moved back to South Bend Indiana and bought out one of his older brothers shares in the Studebaker wagon company and the rest is history.

I understood that Levi Strauss was in the California gold fields with a load of canvas and the miners were in need of pants that would hold all their tools. Thus the need for the rivets. And he wasn't rich when he started out.

When I first wore Levis there were no womens jeans. I wore 30"W 31"L. Lived in jeans all my life, straight leg, then flares, then bootleg even though I lived in the tropics for a large part of that. Due to a medical condition had to stop wearing them 18 months ago.

Never heard of jeans being forbidden in schools in the 50's. We wore them all the time and I don't think anybody thought they were a symbol of rebellion. they were comfortable, practical and cool! I've worn them ever since when I didn't need to dress more formally.
