Half of the time I didn't understand British phrases and half of the time they didn't understand American slang and phrasing, but I got through a long visit to England with my Australian mum, who had as much trouble as I did understanding British "talking"....actually worse than American slang, etc., if that's possible.

Most of them are used in Australia too - all bar Bloody Nora but I used to have a British friend who used it all the time which helped!
