Our planet is beautiful and bizarre, and today we know a lot about Earth. But, as it turns out, your school teachers didn't tell you all the interesting stories about our home planet...
#1
Some scientists believe that our natural satellite came from Earth! As they say, our planet was hit by a large object, which resulted in the splitting off of a small piece of Earth and the formation of the Moon. Have you ever heard about that?
#2
As it turns out, the magnetic field of our planet is not constant. It keeps changing all the time, and, over the past 150 years, the magnetic North Pole has moved approximately 685 miles across northern Canada! Almost 800,000 years ago the magnetic poles of Earth already reversed. It can happen again and become a disastrous event humans have never seen before.
#3
Earth is not a perfect sphere, that's why its mass is not even. It results in fluctuations in gravity in different places on our planet. For example, a 150-pound (68-kilogram) person will weight a tenth of an ounce (2.8 grams)less in Canada’s Hudson Bay than in a place with normal gravity.

#4
Some scientists believe there is another cosmic object constantly rotating around our planet. Anyway, it's more likely that Earth just attracts big asteroids, which can orbit the planet for some time.
#5
They are less common and weaker than earthquakes, but they are real. Moonquakes usually occur close to the core of the Moon.
#6
The scientists named it HD 904790 b and found out that it has an atmosphere suitable for life, important natural resources and even... fresh water! In the future, HD 904790 b can be be inhabited by humans, but it will take us approximately 300,000 years to reach it.

If taken to the surface, it would be enough to cover the entire land surface of the planet with a 1.6 ft (0,5 meters)) layer of gold.
Was this information new for you? Which facts surprised you the most? Are you going to share this knowledge with your children? Do you know any other interesting facts about Earth?
By the time my great grandkids are adults these “facts” will have been replaced by new fads. By then they may realize that, “in the beginning God created…”
This is quiz club so I will be checking these "facts" with other sources. I'm afraid they have proven to be less than truthful in the past.
Remember reading a book by Carl Sagan in the 60s where he claimed the moon had been knocked off the earth leaving the Pacific ocean, it was dismissed by other scientists but I'm interested to see it is coming back. Mind you there have been a lot of other discoveries, when I first started studying Geology the general theory of plate techtonics had been rejected (it was first proposed in the early 20th century) but by the time I got my degree (in Geology and Geography) it wasm firmly back in the sylabus.
Harry Rogers, True! The price of gold is determined by the amount of gold we have. If the extra gold went into the supply chain, gold would become worthless. But the price could be artificially defined by a company or entity controlling the amount that was available. This is how the price of diamonds is kept high.
Interesting thing about gold. The reason why gold is expensive is because it is rare. If gold were more plentiful and readily available, then the price of gold will drop drastically.
Es casualidad, el reloj tiene doce dígitos por el sistema de numeración que se utilizaba en la antigüedad y el calendario tiene doce meses como resultado de una serie de correcciones que fue sufriendo, aunque originalmente tenía diez meses.
