6 obscure but mind-blowing facts
Education is important, but just because you’re out of school doesn’t mean that learning stops. Here are six amazing facts you won’t hear in school.
#1 The reason woodpeckers are able to aggressively drill the wood without getting any head injuries, is actually their tongue.
It acts as a sort of spring, by wrapping around the skull and softening the impact.
#2 The Adidas logo didn’t always belong to Adidas.
They purchased the famous three stripes from a company in Finland in the early 50s.
#3 “Light as a cloud” may be a common expression but it’s not an accurate one.
A normal cloud weighs about 1 million pounds and a storm cloud clocks in at about 2.5 billion pounds. They may look fluffy but they’re heavy hitters!
#4 The process from caterpillar to moth is one of the most fascinating in nature.
The insect dissolves almost completely in order to transition from one state to the other. Surprisingly though, moths have memories from their caterpillar stage and these memories influence their behavior.
#5 An octopus is mostly made out of soft tissue.
Because it has no bone, it has an amazing ability to squeeze its entire malleable body through openings as small as a quarter of their own size.
#6 Sloths may be the butt of a lot of jokes but when it comes to holding their breath, they get the last laugh.
Because of their amazingly slow metabolism, they can hold their breath even longer than dolphins can. A sloth can clock an impressive 40 minutes underwater while a dolphin needs to come out for air after just 15.
